Vintage Executive Desk
This Doten-Dunton Executive style desk was made in the early to mid-1900’s. It is in good condition and to my knowledge all of the hardware is original. I cannot document any history. The desk's drawers bears the maker's mark, Doten-Dunton Desk Company of Cambridge Mass, a name is synonymous with fine commercial furniture. The rectangular shaped top has molded edges with rounded corners above a large center drawer and two pedestals. The left pedestal has a pull-out writing pad above a small drawer, over a large book-size drawer, over another drawer. The right pedestal has another writing pad over 4 drawers. The drawers are 4 corner dovetailed for smooth operation and durability. Another excellent feature is the beveled drawer fronts and line carved corner supports – a sign of handmade quality and craftsmanship. The desk rests on 8 turned legs. Brass knobs open each drawer. The desk is approximately 5 feet 6 inches wide offering plenty of leg room and deep drawers with ample storage. The desk has a Yale lock, but is missing the key. There is also a glass top that is fully intact and will be included.
The overall condition is good with few nicks and scratches here and there. The central drawer has 4 small holes drilled in a square pattern with a small square cut out of the bottom side of the desk directly under that. Also the bottom left drawer has a 2” rectangular area running the width of the drawer cut out of it. I have no idea, the reason for these two things, but as I said I do not know the history of this desk.
The reason for selling this is we need the space. Prices can vary from $775 to $3500 and up. I'm asking $400 OBO.
