Description

For a great family adventure try the Passport to the Past program. There is only 1 month left to participate in the program. So, grab your passport and set a course for a new adventure by Exploring the Museums of Northwest Kansas!  This journey through the area museums will create a “Passport to the Past” and offer a great family adventure.   The program, which was created by the High Plains Museum Coalition, is designed as a scavenger hunt to explore the eight (8) museums in the coalition.   Each museum has a question in the passport for you to answer, but you must go to the museums to answer the questions.   This family adventure is right here in northwest Kansas and you will be able to discover the unique and special treasures of each of the area museums in your own back yard.

Your adventure started this spring and runs until December 31, 2017.  Prizes will be awarded for the scavenger hunt.  If you visit all 8 museums and answer the questions correctly your answer sheet will be entered into the drawing for a $250 cash prize and gift basket.  For visiting 6 of the museums, your answer sheet will be included in the drawing for the $150 cash prize and gift basket; should you only have time to visit 4 of the museums, your entry will be included in the drawing for a $100 cash prize and a gift basket.   The drawing for the prizes will be held in early January 2018.

As you visit each of the museums, you will receive a stamp in your passport booklet and a small treasure for your find at that museum.  When you have completed your answer sheet, be sure to leave it with the last museum you visit.  The booklet also includes the museum schedules, so be sure to check that out, as some of the area museums are only open in the warmer months of the year.

A passport can be picked up at any of the sponsoring museums:  Decatur County Last Indian Raid Museum in Oberlin, Fick Fossil and History Museum in Oakley, Fort Wallace Museum in Wallace, High Plains Museum in Goodland, Prairie Museum of Art and History in Colby, Rawlins County Museum in Atwood, Sheridan County Historical Society in Hoxie, and Trego County Historical Society in WaKeeney.   These are by no means the ONLY museums in northwest Kansas, and we encourage explorers to check them out as well.
