Description

I am looking to hire a part time housekeeper for basic household chores: cleaning (including litterboxes - gloves are provided), laundry, light/basic cooking, handling/sorting mail, grocery shopping or other errands (I am largely homebound), and other such household tasks. I pay $50 cash per 4-hour work day, and the job goes from 8am or 8:30am to Noon or 12:30 (it has to be in the morning and finished by 1pm because I need to rest in the afternoons for health reasons).

Currently, only the 2-day Mondays and Thursdays slot is open, however, if the housekeeper in my 3-day slot (Tues-Wed-Fri) quits, whomever is on the 2-day slot may claim the Wednesday (3rd day), if they wish. This job requires someone who is dependable and will show up regularly on their scheduled days, as I rely on the help to keep up my home and see to the needs of myself and my companions (i.e. pets).

General Requirements:

  • This is a personal job for a single (never married) 36-year old disabled woman who lives in Hays (near the little Dillons on Hall St). I strongly prefer that the work be done by a fellow woman (it understandably makes me uncomfortable to have a man folding my underwear and seeing me writhe in pain in bed).
  • If you wish to apply for this job, you MUST be someone who is not at ALL exposed to nicotine (tobacco, cigarettes, patches, gum, e-cigs, etc.) either at work or home. My health reacts in potentially life-threatening ways to even the briefest casual exposure to nicotine residue (even when the housekeepers themselves do not smoke).
  • To work in this job, you must not be allergic to cats or dogs (my beloved and very friendly "fur babies" live in my home with me, and, aside from brief potty breaks for the two dogs, are not allowed outside at all, so there's plenty of cat and dog hair to irritate any allergies). The pets, especially my dog Sadie, will enthusiastically welcome you every day when you arrive, so it helps if you are good with pets. :)
  • Due to my medical issues, I cannot drive. I rely on housekeepers to run necessary errands for me, so access to a working vehicle is a must
  • Because of my health limitations, you will not be able to make smacking or clicking or kissy "mouth sounds", chew gum, eat, or have things in your mouth (like cough drops) while working. (If you need to get a drink, just warn me first, and I'll plug my ears.) It's imperative that housekeepers remember this while working for me, as the seizures this can cause leave me immobile on the floor for hours, to say nothing of the pain and weakness left in their wake for days afterward.
  • If you catch a cold/flu, I ask that you take time off to recover (because you might be sick for a few days, but, if I catch it, I'll be down for 4-6 weeks, and I cannot be given IVs or any form of injections to speed the recovery process without permanent/life-long, painful, and debilitating physical damage to my body).
  • As I've been asked this in the past, I'll add that I do not have need of nursing/CNA services. There is very little, if anything, that medical professionals can safely do to help me at this point in my life.
  • This is a "start immediately" job, so if you are looking to wait weeks/months before starting work, please don't apply. When I open a housekeeper position, I usually get around 5 applications, and someone usually starts working for me within a week. There's no way I'm willing to wait a month for someone who "might" be interested in the job.
  • I strongly prefer applicants who do not have small children (below school age), as I've had frequent issues with their babysitters flaking out, which leaves me without a housekeeper, or the young children not taking kindly to their mother's absence, resulting in frequent missed days of work. Furthermore, parents who have to pay for babysitting often seem to feel that they need to be paid enough to offset the costs of babysitting (i.e. that I need to pay for their childcare), and I am not willing to do so. Sadly, I've had to make a rule that children cannot be brought to work with the housekeepers. It has literally never worked out when I've given it a chance. (Either the children constantly seek their Mom's attention, doubling the time it takes to do the work, or I have to babysit them, which my health doesn't take well to.)

Character Requirements:

  • Trustworthy and Honest: I do not tolerate stealing or lying about the work done and I do regularly check up on the housekeepers to make sure the work is being done and money entrusted to their care (such as for grocery shopping) is fully accounted for.
  • Clean: Please don't show up to work filthy or in filthy clothing. There is, of course, no work uniform, but please keep your attire choice generally appropriate.
  • Able to accurately follow complex written and spoken English directions: Native English-speakers only please. It's too hard for people who've learned English as a second language to follow the directions and sort the mail, something I've learned the hard way. Also, I am in very poor health and cannot supervise constantly (because I never know ahead of time when my health will take a turn for the worse and leave me bedridden for hours/days at a time).
  • Work independently at a reasonable pace: There's a list of chores that need to be done within the 3.5 hour timeframe so there's not time to stand around doing nothing or mess around calling, texting, or playing with one's phone while working. Similarly, please don't expect to blast music, as it's very distracting to me. (My home tends to be a rather quiet place).
  • No "potty mouths", please: I do not use profanity nor do I allow cussing in my home. Most people have not found this a difficult requirement (but there have been a few over the years who did, so I mention it).

If interested, please send me a message here on Nex-Tech Classifieds to apply and please include the following information in your application:

  1. First Name (I don't need to know your last name, but you can give it if you wish).
  2. Age (You can just give the first/tens digit, if you wish). :)
  3. Does anyone in your home, anyone who uses/rides in your car, or anyone you work with smoke or use other tobacco products?
  4. Can you reliably work from 8/8:30am to 12:30/1pm every Monday and Thursday?
  5. Are you allergic to pets?
  6. Is English your native language?
  7. Can you go a few hours straight without swearing? (Hard as it may be to believe, this has actually become a problem a few times in the past...)
  8. Have you ever done housekeeping work before (such as at hotels/hospitals/nursing homes or independently for others in their home)?
  9. Do you have any young children who are not yet in school? If so, what are your babysitting arrangements?
  10. Are you physically healthy enough to do such work? You will need to be able to crouch down (to reach litterboxes and pick up any trash/recycling, etc.), lift bags of pet food into the storage bins, ascend/descend stairs (to get to and from the basement), walk a vacuum/shampooer around the house, etc. If you are in poor physical health, this may not be a good job for you.
  11. If you'd like to add anything about why you feel you'd be a good fit for the job, please feel free to put that at the end of your message.

Thanks for reading!

Signed, Pamela
