Ensures provision of care to the assigned patient population in a professional manner, utilizing the nursing process and principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of Nursing Department staff members assigned to the shift. The Supervisor is responsible for assigning duties, examining work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. The Supervisor is also responsible for successful organizational and administrative operation of the shift in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations while ensuring the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.  Addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. Supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. Determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. Must have the ability to effectively lead the nursing staff as well as manage the hospital during the off hours.  Requires excellent critical thinking and communication skills.  Must be knowledgeable in emergency department and obstetric department and/or meet position requirements outlined.  Must be able and willing to serve on call shifts and provide additional assistance as call nurse.

Minimum Education:  Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree Registered Nurse from an accredited nursing school.  Current Kansas Registered Nurse License.

Minimum Experience:  Practicing acute care nurse for minimum 2 years.

Certification or Registration if required:  Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Kansas.  Basic Life Support required.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, Neonatal Resuscitation, Pediatric Advance Life Support, STABLE current within one year of hire date.

Oriented to Emergency Department within 6 months of hire. 

Oriented to Labor and Delivery within 1 year of hire.
