Description

I am looking to hire a part-time housekeeper for basic household chores: cleaning (including litterboxes - gloves are provided), laundry, dishes, floors (sweep/mop or vacuum/shampoo), handling/sorting mail, grocery shopping or other errands (I am largely homebound), and other such household tasks (possibly including some light cooking, though this is rare). I pay $50 cash per morning. The job starts at 8am (or 8:30am if you need to run kids to school) and must to be completed by noon, 1pm at the absolute latest (because I need to rest in the afternoons for health reasons). I am currently looking to hire for the Monday/Thursday slots (meaning you'd work every Monday and Thursday and get paid $100 per week).

Job Requirements (Some of these may seem really silly, however, at least one housekeeper who worked for me over the years has had a problem with each of them...)
1. Women only (I'm a single, never-married woman and admittedly perhaps a bit of a prude, so I just do not feel comfortable having men folding my underwear.)
2. No tobacco/nicotine exposure (My health is severely affected by nicotine residue, which is why I have to wear gloves just to handle cash money or mail, so please don't apply if someone in your home smokes, chews, uses patches, etc.)
3. No pet allergies (My rather spoiled pets live in my home and provide vital comfort to me in my poor health. If you are allergic to cats or dogs, you probably won't be able to do this job.)
4. Do not send me into seizures (There are specific "triggers", most especially eating, drinking, chewing, making clicky mouth sounds, etc., that can send me into seizures. I will tell you what these things are, but I expect you to be able to remember not to do them. In the case of getting a drink, however, you can just warn me first, and I'll plug my ears.)
5. Good personal hygiene (This is a cleaning job, so I do require that you arrive to work clean and healthy. Please don't show up in dirty clothes or reeking of body odor or perfume. Also, please don't come to work if you are sick with a cold/flu, as this poses a serious risk to my health and, if I catch it, will leave me bedridden for over a month!)
6. Works independently (There is a pre-set list of chores to be done each day, and you will be expected to work quickly enough to get them done in the time allotted. I am physically disabled and will do my best to help you through the job your first few times, despite the pain this causes me, but you will eventually need to learn how to do it without a babysitter, as my health fails frequently and unpredictably, leaving me writhing in pain in bed for hours/days at a time.)
7. Native English-speaker (The written instructions, used for reference, are in English, and non-native English speakers usually struggle to understand them, to say nothing of my verbal instructions. To give you some idea of how big a problem this has been, I've literally had a "bilingual" housekeeper who threw away a brand new $400 tablet because she couldn't understand my spoken English instructions and was too distracted by her kids calling her cellphone every 20 minutes, see #10 below.)
8. Follows directions (I've built up a system of rules over the years to make things run as smoothly as possible. You need to be able to listen/read instructions and actually remember these things long enough to follow them.)
9. Trustworthy and honest (I won't tolerate lying about the work you've done or stealing from me.)
10. Not addicted to a cellphone (This is a job, not a hangout. If someone can't keep from texting their buddies or checking Twitter every ten minutes or if they think they can doddle around or get paid to listen to music, please don't apply for this job. Seriously, you have no idea how often this has been an issue...)
11. No "Foul Mouths" please (I don't use profanity, and I don't allow others to use profanity in my home. Expect to be called out on it if you do, repeatedly if necessary and with increasing annoyance each time. What you do in your own home is your business, but I absolutely do NOT want to hear cuss words in mine.)
12. Ready to start immediately (I am looking to hire right away and have someone start working ASAP.)
13. Has a vehicle (You need to have access to a vehicle so you can run errands, and the vehicle needs to be reasonably clean and absolutely free of nicotine/tobacco residue, i.e. no one smokes in it.)
14. You have to be reasonably healthy (If you are in poor health or on/applying for disability, this is probably not the job for you. This job requires that you be able to walk a vacuum around the house, crouch down to clean litterboxes, ascend/descend the basement stairs, and lift a bag of dog food, among other things.)
15. Reliable (I rely on you to show up when you're supposed to or, if an emergency comes up, notify me as far ahead of time as possible. If a housekeeper doesn't show up, I have to make sure the essentials are done myself, and this causes me a great deal of physical pain.)

Additional Notes: I do not have need of nursing/CNA services. (I've had multiple people ask this.) Also, I prefer those who do not have small children not yet in school, as it's posed a problem multiple times in the past when babysitters flake out on them, leaving us both in the lurch. If you have stable babysitting arrangements (such as with reliable family members), then it may not be an issue, but I've had several housekeepers who quit because of babysitting problems.

If you are interested in the job, please send me an application through the Nex-Tech messaging system. (I've started doing this instead of in-home interviews because it's more convenient for all of us and saves me a lot of time when people don't bother to read ALL the requirements.) Please include the following in your application:

1. First Name?
2. Age?
3. Contact Number (or other preferred method of contact)?
4. Did you read ALL 15 Job Requirements, and do you have a problem with any of them (most especially #2, #3, #7, #11, #13, & #15)?
5. Have you ever worked in housekeeping before (such as at a nursing home or hotel or privately for others in their home)?
6. Do you have children who are not yet in school (under age 5)? If so, what are your childcare arrangements?
7. Are you familiar with cleaning supplies and equipment? (i.e. Do you know how to use a vacuum, carpet shampooer, dishwasher, and washer/dryer, and know the difference between floor cleanser and toilet bowl cleanser or between Windex and isopropyl alcohol?) If not, are you willing and able to learn?
8. Anything else you'd like to add (such as reasons why you feel you'd be a good fit for this job or references, if applicable)?

Thanks for reading!

Signed, Pamela
