Accountant position

Location: Options Domestic & Sexual Violence Services, Inc. - Hays Kansas
Job Type: Permanent; Starts 30 hrs per week with strong possibility to expand to full time in less than 1 year.

This is a great opportunity for an accountant to work for a small but rapidly expanding non-profit advocacy center.

The successful applicant will be highly qualified and possess excellent communication skills, for this role and have experience in non-profit accounting.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Process payroll in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Process purchase approvals.
  • File payroll taxes so that all requirements are met, while avoiding overpayment.
  • Process expense reports in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Process disbursements for employee benefits and pay agency bills.
  • Make deposits.
  • File, order supplies and perform miscellaneous duties for agency.
  • Work with Board Treasurer to review current budget standing.
  • Prepare reports/statements for the Treasurer and Executive Director’s review.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director in evaluation of agency spending.
  • Prepare all financial grant reports for funders and others.
  • Analyze accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the agency.
  • Work with the Executive Director on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
  • Review records of accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare documentation as necessary for the independent annual audit, and for individual grant audits.
  • Develop systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
