This is an oil on canvas with a glass cover that I purchased in Windsor Locks CT, in 1987. I bought it from an elderly lady in Massachusetts who told me she brought it with her from Belgium. When I first looked at it, I thought it was a watercolor as it has a glass cover but I looked in where the paper is torn in back and it is on canvas. It was framed in Paris (framers sticker, G. F. Redon, is on the back). It is a marvelous picture, well done and well framed. The artist did the hands well and the wistful look on the fisherman's face as he looks out the window. It is signed Felix Cogen (1838 - 1907), a well listed Belgian artist. He has sold many paintings including Bonhams London and Christies London and Amsterdam. At Christies Amsterdam a painting sold for almost 10,000 US. This is a large painting, 24 1/4 X 30 1/2.
My photography does not show how really great is this painting. It is really magnificent and if I had room I would keep it.
