Roy Keller will be presented with a Quilt of Valor

American Legion, Moore Post 197 of WaKeeney, Kansas along with the SW Kansas Quilts of Valor Team wish to announce that the Quilts of Valor Foundation is planning to have a presentation of a special handmade quilt to honor WaKeeney veteran; Roy Keller.  The presentation will be on 18 March 2018 at 3:00 PM, American Legion Hall, 517 Russell Ave, WaKeeney, Ks.   The community is invited to come and Thank Mr. Keller.

Roy Keller served in the United States Navy for 4 years including deployment to Korea.  His mission was a Telecom Sailor with the following duties: telecom operator and postal clerk.  Honors were received and discharge took place January 1955 at Treasure Island, CA.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation was founded in 2003 and their mission is to "cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.  Star members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.  Star Spangled volunteer quilters get together and make quilts to honor and thank our military the majority of which they have never or will never meet.  After their presentation the quilts become heirlooms which document the military service of the recipient.  Thank you notes we have received encourage the volunteers to continue to sew quilts.  A card the SW Kansas QOVF group recently received concluded with "There really are no words to really tell you what it means to be honored this way.  It replaces the bad memories when coming home from Vietnam".  As of this month the QOV foundation has awarded over 180,000 Quilts of Valor.  You can learn more about the foundation and request a quilt for a veteran at the Quilts of Valor website at www.qovf.org.
