Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 60 hours of college credit in a related field (elementary/early childhood). Applicant must provide a copy of transcript. Experience with children birth to three preferred. Bilingual applicants preferred.

Starting salary: $14.66 per hour

Early Childhood Connections (Prenatal to 3 Year Old Program)

Parent Educator

Job Description

Purpose:  Provides direct services and support to Early Childhood Connection families and children (primarily bilingual families).

Responsible to:  Early Childhood Connections Director

Qualifications/Requirements:

1.      High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of 60 hours of college credit in a related field.  (Early childhood or elementary education, nursing, or social services). 

2.      Basic computer knowledge.

3.      Good communication skills including oral, written, and listening.

4.      Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, families, children, childcare providers, and community members.

5.      Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends.

6.      Willingness to work as a team player.

7.      Organizational skills to deal with multiple issues.

8.      Ability to identify goals for families and children.

9.      Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation.

10.   Ability to drive to home visits in participating counties during scheduled home visit times, typically 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

 Essential Job Functions:

Provides home visits to assigned families based on “level of need”.

1.      Develops positive relationships with families by practicing open communication skills and demonstrating a non-judgmental and empathetic attitude.

2.      Develops individualized activity plans based on family and/or child needs and goals.

3.      Implements a regular schedule of home visits based on family needs.

4.      Completes paperwork related to home visits in a timely fashion.

Ensures that the health and social service needs of children and families are met.

1.      Tracks immunizations and health requirements on assigned families.

2.      Assists families in accessing health and medical services necessary to meet requirements.

3.      Is knowledgeable of a wide variety of community services in the service area and procedures for accessing such services.

4.      Provides a yearly screening: development, health, vision, and hearing.

5.      Assists families in accessing social services necessary to meet their needs.

Assists families in developing Family Partnership Agreements.

1.      Uses interviewing skills to guide families in identifying goals and resources.

2.      Supports families in accessing needed resources to obtain goals.

3.      Ensures that each assigned family has a Family Partnership Agreement in place.

 Fulfills requirements of designated specialty area.

Willing to Certify:

1.      Program Certification.

2.      Child Development Associates Certification (Home Visitor).

3.      Ages and Stages screening tool.

4.      Growing Great Kids/Family Curriculum.

5.      Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

6.      First Aid.

Working Conditions:

Spends approximately 35% of the time planning and processing paperwork in the office; 65% working with families, children, childcare providers, and community agencies.

Other:

1.      The employee must observe and follow all school district policies at all times.

2.      The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.

Terms of Employment:

1.      At will.

2.      Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy.

3.      Selected candidate must pass background check.

4.      Selected candidate must provide health and inoculation certificate.

Evaluation:

1.      Performance effectiveness evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and USD 489 Board of Education policy.

2.      Evaluation will be the responsibility of the supervisor.
