EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 
Required: This position requires the following educational and/or job experience.

  • Master’s degree in nursing. 
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license to practice in the state of employment. 
  • State License practice unrestricted. 
  • Six (6) plus years of clinical nursing care work experience. 
  • Six (6) plus years of progressive work and relevant industry experience including three (3) plus years of charge-nurse experience. 
  • Four (4) plus years of supervisory and/or management experience. 
  • Work experience with healthcare accreditation with preference within the substance abuse treatment industry. 
  • Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Buprenorphine Suboxone Certification within three months of employment

Preferred:

  • Eight (8) plus years of clinical nursing care work experience. 
  • Eight (8) plus years of progressive work and relevant industry experience including three (3) plus years of charge-nurse experience. 
  • Six (6) plus years of supervisory and/or management experience. 
  • Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) within one year of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following sets forth the primary responsibilities of this job, but is not an exhaustive list. The Organization, through its managers and supervisors, reserves the right to assign any additional duties necessary to meet the needs of our patients, partners and/or employees.

  1. Provides routine performance feedback, ongoing leadership, and mentoring in support of staff development.  
  2. Ensures proper and adequate treatment provided during emergencies by nursing staff and that established policies and procedures for all medical emergencies are consistently followed (i.e., convulsions, suicides, Delirium Tremens, etc.).
  3. Participates in facility performance improvement activities and leads efforts specific to medical nursing services and improving nursing care quality.  Collaborates with facility management staff to identify and implement improvement activities across the facility. 
  4. Oversees and manages the security, control, and administration of drugs, medications, treatments, and tests as allowed by law.
  5. Maintains appropriate standards of patient confidentiality; ensures nursing staff adheres to all policies and procedures regarding patient information protection and HIPPA. 
  6. Oversees and Assists with medical nursing tasks and activities required to maintain compliance with Joint Commission as well as any other regulatory bodies. 
  7. Assists the efforts to build the skills and competencies of the nursing staff as needed to meet minimum requirements as specified by customary standards of nursing practice, external accrediting agency guidelines, and internal organizational guidelines. 
  8. Ensures effective communications between the medical department and all other clinical and support-service department. 
  9. Participates in the annual budgeting process including development of the facility’s medical nursing services budget; partners with the Executive Director, Director of Nursing, Clinical Program Director, and Business Operations Manager throughout the process to ensure budget meets the facility’s medical nursing operational needs.   
  10. Manages the facility’s medical nursing services annual budget to ensure financial goals are being achieved and budget met.  Communicates areas of concern and issues to Executive Director, Clinical Program Director, Director of Nursing, and/or Business Operations Manager as appropriate.
  11. Assists the facility Safety Officer and is responsible for the coordination, development, implementation, and monitoring of plans for safety management activities; this includes security management, hazardous materials and waste management, emergency preparedness, life safety management, medical equipment management, utility systems management, space allocation management, and infection control programs.
  12. Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of nursing procedures and substance abuse treatments in accordance with company policy and State and Federal guidelines.
  13. Maintains and coordinates with facility team the use of MAT Therapy and follow up care post treatment. 
  14. Maintains a current working knowledge of trends within substance abuse treatment industry and with State and Federal regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  15. Participates in all assigned staff meetings, staff development, and training as required.
  16. Interacts and communicates with others (patients, co-workers, management, and vendors) in a professional and tactful manner including treating them with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
  17. Service provider will provide medical services to primarily Valley Hope Residential and secondary Valley Hope IOP as needed.  For all patients admitted to the facility for a history, physical, follow-up, psychological evaluations, and medical management that may require Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) options. It is important that Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is certified to prescribe Suboxone management for opiate or pain management patients. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will be available via phone (on call) daily, when not present physically at the facility.  Service Provider will meet with executive team and or Corporate Medical Advisor monthly or every two months to offer suggestions, share concerns, and noted progress.
  18. Service Provider, or Service Provider's appropriate designee(s), will provide services under this Agreement that are consistent with and meet the criteria of any policies and procedures that VHA adopts to comply with local, state, or federal regulations and/or to comply with accreditation requirements of the Joint Commission (JCAHO) or any other duly appointed accrediting agencies.
  19. For the purposes of compliance with the Privacy Standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA"), Service Provider's relationship with VHA shall be considered that of "Business Associate". As used hereunder, the terms "Business Associate," "Protected Health Information," "use" and "disclosure" shall have the meanings ascribed to them in 45 CFR Section 160.103 and 164.501. Service Provider and VHA mutually agree to conduct business in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA and the regulations promulgated thereunder. Disclosure by VHA to Service Provider of any Protected Health Information will be made for the sole purpose of helping VHA carry out its healthcare functions and to allow Service Provider to complete its contractual obligations to VHA. Protected Health Information will not be used or disclosed by Service Provider other than as permitted by this Agreement or applicable law. Service Provider may not use any Protected Health Information for any of its purposes or activities not related to this Agreement. Service Provider represents and warrants that it will use Protected Health Information only to complete its obligations pursuant to this Agreement and as may otherwise be required by law.
  20. Service Provider agrees to carry appropriate liability insurance and will provide evidence of this coverage in the form of a copy of the certificate of insurance at the time this Agreement is executed. Service Provider will provide to VHA a copy of the certificate of insurance at any time Service Provider's insurance coverage(s) change(s) or renews. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will carry a minimum of 1 million in personal malpractice liability insurance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The following is intended to give and overview of the work environment of the position, but is not an exhaustive list.

  • Residential treatment facility setting; requires walking throughout the facility. 
  • Direct contact with patients. 
  • Able to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. 
  • Able to push, pull, pull up, bend at the knees and waist, twist body at the waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed, grasp other items with hands, for either extended periods of time or many times throughout the workday. 
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and able to assist an adult weighing 100-250 pounds.
