Description

Semi trailer Chassis ready for tank mounting.

This is a military surplus chassis, plated 6-Ton, 4-Wheel M295A1
It had a tank command genset service van mounted on it with an original gross weight of over 27,000 pounds.

Manufactured around 1980 by Southwest Truck Body Co for the US ARMY

I've been told this trailer would be great for mounting tanks to.

Two axles, each with dualies for a total of 8 wheels as shown.
I believe all 8 wheels are the same so the spare can fit any position.

The plate says it's a 6-ton trailer, but original gross weight was near 27,000. I've removed the body so it's now just the trailer chassis which I believe weighs around 6000 pounds..

RAIL dimensions: (if mounting hardware/tanks)

34 inches wide O.D and aprox 213 inches long
the rail "C style" beams are 3.5" thick/flat at the top. There is also a circa 1/4" flat plate welded to the flat top of the beams for most of the front half, and then there two shorter pads welded midway and at the back. (the original body slid along and sat on these)
The height of the two rail beams is around 11.75" tall except where they taper to around 8" up and over the axles)

the cross rails are countersunk below the long rails and range from 24 to 48 inches apart as shown in pic

The welded and drilled angle brackets shown in pics jut out about 3 inches from the outside of the rails and are 3.5" or so wide.

It's military grade very very heavy duty. Only light surface rust.

I do not know condition of brakes, but all the lines and connectors look intact.

Tires are in excellent condition. Spare looks close to new.
One tire is low as shown in pic and may need a tube (i will have repaired prior to sale)

There is a 20 or 30 gallon onboard kerosene/diesel tank, the supply line used to go to a heater and has been cut. There is also an electric pump on it / wires cut, condition unknown.

There is a very large and strong platform in the front. It had generators/test equipment mounted at one point- it has several drilled holes for mounting bolts and some brackets still attached. The steel platform has a dent/bend in it - but the underlying frame structure appears unaffected.

It's for use with a semi truck or bed mounted for a kingpin connection- it has a kingpin.

The trailer in excellent shape.

The trailer jacks in the front work fine. The levers that slide onto the jack cranks are missing so you need to use your own. I've used a large pipe wrench in the past.

I don't know if the brakes work, I haven't tried them but the connectors and all the equipment on the trailer looks in tact and fine, don't know if the military bled the lines before selling this as surplus.

I do not have a title. I obtained it from government liquidations auction at Ft Riley a few years back, so if required by law, you may need to obtain a title for it on your own.
