Summary

Rig derrick equipment and operate pumps to circulate mud through drill hole.

 

Essential Functions

  • Perform General Physical Activities – Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.  Move pipes to and from trucks, using truck winches and motorized lifts or by hand.  Unscrew or tighten pipes, casing, tubing, and pump rods, using hand and power wenches and tongs.  Bolt together pump and engine parts.  Latch elevators onto the pipe.
  • Rig Setup and Maintenance – Take rig down, move and setup rig at new location.  Pick up and lay down drill pipe and drill collars, make connections and trips, clean and service rig.  Mix mud, work on pumps, apply nudope, and clean pits.
  • Repair and Maintain Mechanical Equipment – Service, repair, adjust, and test rig equipment.  Dismantle and repair oil field machinery using hand tools and power tools.
  • Safety Training and Implementation – Perform duties according to approved processes and utilize required safety equipment and protection.  Complete job specific required safety training.

 

Other Functions

  • Keep pipe deck and main deck areas clean and free of clutter.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Mechanical – Knowledge of drilling rig components, their uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Safety – Knowledge of and following applicable safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Static Strength – The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Repairing – Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.

  • Operation Monitoring – Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Education

Prefer High School Diploma or GED.

 

Work Experience

Requires some previous work-related skill, knowledge or experience.  Prefer experience leading crews.
