Job Duty Description: This is warehouse work involving the performance of clerical and manual functions of average difficulty under general supervision. Responsibilities are assisting in the operation of the storeroom and inmate canteen duties.

Minimum Qualifications:  One year of experience in storekeeping, including receiving, inspecting, cataloging, and storing goods and maintaining inventory records. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Performance Standards: Monitors storage areas, processes requisitions and other facility documentation as needed in order to keep track of inventory quantities and to determine reorder needs. Provides assistance to inmate workers concerning preparation of requisitions. Receives and examines office supplies, materials, equipment, paper products and other goods, verifies receipt of items, checks the quantity and quality of received goods against purchase orders and receiving documents and notes discrepancies; takes physical inventories utilizing the Atrex inventory software. Fills orders, issues materials over-the-counter and prepares goods for transfer or shipping. Establishes, modifies and maintains receiving, stocking, storage, and disbursing. Insures proper completion, computation and accuracy of physical inventory reports, disbursement forms and other related documents.  Assists with receiving and delivering of all incoming canteen, exempt canteen and external inmate vendor orders, including all necessary documentation that accompanies these processes.

Preferred Requirements: Knowledge of commonly accepted receiving practices. Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Knowledge of basic physical inventory procedures. Knowledge of basic perpetual inventory procedures. Knowledge of safe machine operating procedures. Ability to recognize corresponding numbers and letters. Ability to accurately transfer/record numerical and alphabetical figures. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to make basic arithmetic computations. Ability to communicate verbally in an understandable and tactful manner. Ability to establish effective business and working relationships. Ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees. Ability to read, understand, and use various cataloging systems. Ability to compare information and recognize discrepancies. Ability to understand and follow prescribed storekeeping procedures. Ability to follow safety procedures. Physical strength and stamina sufficient to lift heavy objects.

Selection Process:  Applicants selected for interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior based interview questions, and possibly a performance or written test. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval.  A second interview may be conducted.  Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency.

Veteran Preference Eligible (VPE):  This position is eligible for veterans’ preference.  Interested veterans must submit a DD 214 to the Department of Administration to be verified as a veteran under K.S.A. 73-201 prior to the vacancy close date.  Verified veterans who meet the selection criteria for this position will be invited for an interview.
